Richmond 2018 Dates (provisional):
Friday 4th May 2018 – Sunday 6th May 2018
Friday 31st August 2018 – Sunday 2nd September 2018

2017 was a memorable year for The Millbry Hill Richmond Horse Trials.   Both the May and September events were very successful and with good entries.  We were thrilled to welcome so many riders and owners to Richmond and, despite the weather being cold in May, both events ran well and with very little rain during the course of the horse trials it made for almost perfect going.

Jamie Innes, our cross country Course Designer and Moray Nicholson, Course Builder pulled out all the stops to create 4 stunning courses with plenty of new questions for both horses and riders.  May 2017 saw a new bank complex for some of the competitors, and at the September event all riders, other than the BE90’s, ran over it.  Moray had a resident rabbit to deal with before this could happen, but he managed to dislodge the sneaky fellow before the event began! A new road crossing at the September event was inspired and added a new dimension for all competitors.

Donna and Rennie Wood who manage the Arenas at Richmond Equestrian Centre, provided an immaculate venue for the show jumping phase of the events, with Tracy Barraclough designing and building very impressive courses for all classes.

We were thrilled to host a Mitsubishi Motors Cup BE100 Regional Final at Richmond 2, which saw a number of competitors qualify for the prestigious final to be held at Badminton 2018.  Also, running along side that we had the KBIS 4yo and 5yo qualifiers, which attracted a wealth of exciting young horses aiming at the final, which was held at Osberton at the beginning of October 2017.

At our May event we welcomed under 18 novice and BE100 competitors and the under 21 riders were out in force at the September event competing at Intermediate level.  These are certainly the top riders of the future and it was lovely to see so many of them at Richmond.

At every Richmond Horse Trials, we like to support two charities that are close to our hearts.  This September we set up a new Charity Tea Tent overlooking the cross-country course. The tent was open to all and a good selection of cakes, tea and coffee was made available for a donation to our chosen charities.  As well as raising money for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, we donated money to Lizzie Richmond who was raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and also, at our September event, Sarah Metcalf on behalf of the A-T Society. All of these charities are exceptional and we are proud to support them.  All the donations taken in the Tea Tent and secretary’s caravan were added to our own contributions.

We are extremely grateful to our army of volunteers without who it would not be possible to run the events to such a high standard.   We are always looking for people with or without equestrian experience to join our team.  Please get in touch if you feel you can help.

Also, we would very much like to thank our incredible sponsors.  Millbry Hill being the title sponsor and our Headline sponsor, The Golden Paste Company.  All the section and fence sponsors are listed below.  Without the amazing generosity of these companies we would not be able to run our events.  We are extremely grateful for their support.
